Job Summary

The Nurse Informatics Specialist (EHR) serves as the bridge between nursing practice and electronic health record (EHR) systems. This role ensures that nursing workflows are effectively integrated into the EHR, supports adoption among clinical staff, and optimizes system usage to enhance patient care quality, safety, and efficiency. The specialist combines clinical nursing knowledge with health IT expertise to improve documentation, support decision-making, and streamline clinical processes.

Key Responsibilities

EHR Design & Workflow Optimization

• Analyze and map nursing workflows to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and patient safety.
• Translate clinical protocols, standards, and best practices into EHR content, templates, and order sets.
• Participate in EHR configuration, testing, and validation from a nursing perspective.
• Identify workflow inefficiencies and recommend system/process improvements.
• Support development of clinical decision support tools (alerts, protocols, and care pathways).

Support & Troubleshooting

• Collaborate with IT teams to troubleshoot EHR-related issues and escalate system problems when necessary.
• Provide frontline support to clinicians during go-live, upgrades, and new module implementation.
• Monitor and address user feedback to improve system usability and effectiveness.

Training & Adoption

• Develop and deliver training programs for nursing and clinical staff on EHR use, documentation standards, and system updates.
• Serve as a super-user and point of contact for EHR-related queries from nursing teams.
• Provide ongoing coaching and support to promote adoption and proficiency in EHR usage.

Collaboration & Communication

• Act as a liaison between nurses, physicians, IT staff, and hospital administrators to ensure alignment of EHR with clinical best practices.
• Communicate clearly with stakeholders to translate clinical needs into technical requirements.
• Participate in interdisciplinary committees related to clinical informatics, patient safety, and quality improvement.

Compliance & Data Quality

• Ensure nursing documentation within the EHR complies with regulatory, accreditation, and hospital standards.
• Monitor data integrity, accuracy, and completeness in nursing records.
• Support quality improvement initiatives by generating reports and analyzing data trends.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.
• Certification in Nursing Informatics, Health Informatics, or related field preferred.
• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from PNC.

Experience:

• 3+ years of clinical nursing experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
• At least 02 years of experience in health informatics, EHR implementation, or clinical systems support.
• Prior experience with EHR platforms is preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

• Nursing Workflows – Ability to analyze and optimize nursing processes to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care within the EHR.
• Informatics – Skilled in bridging clinical practice with technology by applying nursing informatics principles to improve care delivery.
• EHR Configuration – Proficient in customizing and validating EHR templates, forms, and workflows to meet nursing and regulatory standards.
• Training & Support – Experienced in training, mentoring, and providing ongoing support to clinical staff for effective EHR adoption.
